Day 28: "bor bor"

Having previously discussed my preference for camping in isolation I must admit that if I did have to stay only in formalised parks it's would be Nitmaluk. The National Park has facilities that many expensive caravan parks could only wish for.  With a tropical pool, bar, camp kitchens and a magic gorge only 100 metres away it is hard to believe it is a National Park.  The park is jointly managed with the traditional Jawoyn people who have a philosophy to "share our country".  And what a great job they have done.

We had a lazy morning including sitting around the pool before getting ready for the three gorge cruise in the afternoon.

Kathering Gorge has been created by the Katherine River carving a deep casm through the ancient sandstone.  Today's trip was to visit three of the thirteen gorges.

The boat slowly slipped its way through the calm emerald green water with towering red cliffs either side. On the banks the kids counted 9 freshwater crocodiles basking on the sun. Kathy was not very happy not knowing where the tenth was as we about to go for a swim.

The highlight was definitely swimming in the cool waters of the Katherine River. It was one of those moments where you had to stop and just absorb the beautiful scenery around you.

The cruise is highly recommended with even the tour guide giving enough information while maintaining a Northern Territory relaxed style about it.  There is no doubt that it will not be 'good bye' but "bor bor" in the traditional language - until next time.
